Holding Extremist Accountable
A message From Idaho Leaders United
Dear Members and Friends:
Idaho Leaders United was formed to bring together regular Idahoans who care about common sense, decency and respect - and are concerned about a rising tide of political violence in our state.
In 2022, Idahoans watched as members of the Patriot Front swarmed upon Coeur d’Alene in riot gear with an intent to disrupt the CDA Pride Festival. Their actions quickly made national news.
Just a few months prior, Ammon Bundy and his network of activists, forced a Boise hospital into lockdown and then spent months defaming the hospital and its employees, even going so far as to claim that the hospital was “working with the government to take children away from Christian families to be sexually abused and given to gay couples.”
In 2023, Idahoans can be proud that our courts, and our people, have held these extremists accountable. Patriot Front members were convicted last Thursday for conspiracy to riot in Coeur d'Alene.
And this week, Ammon Bundy and Diego Rodriguez were ordered by a jury to pay $52.5 million to St. Luke’s Health System and the staff members they viciously harassed. Click here for a timeline of Bundy’s increasingly violent rhetoric in the lead up to the case.
Legal consequences are important, and these rulings send a message. If you break the law to harass, obstruct and threaten community members trying to do their jobs and live their lives - you will face consequences.
We also know that community members have an important role to play - we need to make political violence and extremism unimaginable in our state.
